I missed posting this on the anniversary of its release (May 1), but ArtLark has a wonderful article about “Citizen Kane,” one of my all time favorite films, and the “Heart of Darkness” at its heart. Conrad’s famous novella was finally brought to the screen a little more directly in 1979 with “Apocalypse Now” (another of my favorite films), but this article explains how there’s a lot of Conrad inherent in Welles’s masterpiece–which in fact started out as an adaptation of it.
