russian cave monastery

I can’t stop exploring 360cities.net! Today I found this odd place–a monastery located in some type of underground cavern in the city of Divnogorsk, in central Russia. Definitely click over to the full size panorama to explore this–it’s really cool!

I know very little about this place. Evidently it was built sometime in the 17th century. The icons on the walls look very Byzantine (Russian Orthodox art continued to adopt Byzantine styles for centuries after the empire fell) and I would imagine the Cyrillic graffiti on the walls is mostly religious in nature.
