So it’s getting to be almost time for Wacken Open Air, the biggest heavy metal festival in the known universe, which kicks off next weekend. Despite having attended the festival 11 times, I had to do Wacken in exile last year, and unfortunately I’m not going to make it this year either. So imagine how excited I was when I saw 360-degree virtual panoramas of Wacken, linked from the Wacken website!
If you’ve been following my “Earth” posts you know I’ve gone totally ape over 360cities.net. Well, Wacken has employed the same technology! I snapped the above shot of the lovely breathalyzer brigade from the panoramas for 2011–the last year I was there. You can spin around these Teutonic tailspins by clicking “Wacken Ladies” at the bottom of the screen, or you can visit the Wacken beer garden (my favorite!), the stage area, the infield, or wherever your heart desires!
They come complete with sound too, so you get the full virtual experience of actually being there. This is really really cool! They also have panoramas for Wacken 2012.
You’ve really got to check this out! If you’ve been to Wacken and miss it as much as I do, this is definitely a site to bookmark.
