Chapter 40 of The Armored Satchel, my World War II spy thriller, went up this afternoon on JukePop Serials! As I said last week, we’re rapidly heading toward the close of the story. This week’s chapter features the meeting we’ve been building up to since the beginning of the “Red Chameleon” storyline: the big swap of Nehrig’s atom bomb plans for a U.S. passport that is Max Volcker’s ticket home. But will Max even survive the meeting with Karenov, the Soviet spy who has proven to be his arch-nemesis? Even if the mission goes well, Max faces an agonizing choice…what to do about Tiago?

This is a very emotional chapter, probably the most emotional since Chapter 17. This chapter, coming near the end of Max’s adventure, is meant to mirror the beginning (Chapter 3), where he sequestered himself in a Caen hotel room to decide to steal the Specter’s identity and become a spy. Now things are very different for Max, and the stakes are much higher. I hoped to connect these final few chapters to some things that have happened over the course of the story, to tie the whole thing together.
While I’m looking forward to finishing The Armored Satchel, part of me is going to miss it. Doing this serial has been an important part of my life for the past year. But, it’s time to move on to other projects and perhaps leave Max to fight another day. Nevertheless, I’m very grateful for all the votes and support, and I’m still trying to get the serial to 1000 votes before it finishes. So please vote!
