I’m starting to think about Wacken, where I will be 2 weeks from today. It’s extremely rare for me to start thinking about Wacken so late. In most of the 11 previous years I’ve gone, I began thinking about it in January…or the previous October! Alas, I’ve been so busy that this long-planned expedition to Germany has crept up on me.

This morning I was listening to “Emerald Sword” by Rhapsody (now known as Rhapsody of Fire) and recalled fondly the time I saw them at Wacken Open Air–my very first time there, in the year 2000. Thus, today’s selection had to be that song, and I specifically chose this video which was put out by LMP Music in 2003. Although the song itself first appeared on Rhapsody’s debut album Symphony of Enchanted Lands in 1998, the live footage in this video was recorded at Wacken 2000. I’m in this crowd somewhere!

I took a long time to warm up to Rhapsody, but eventually they became one of my all-time favorite bands. Alas, they aren’t on the bill this year, but I’m sure I’ll see them again someday.

Shabbat Shalom, have a great Friday and great weekend! \m/
