After being gone for more than a week, I’ve returned from the heavy metal festival in Wacken, Germany, and Wacken Open Air 2014–likely to be my last experience at the festival for a good long while–is history. Pictured above is my wristband from the festival. I had a very long and arduous journey home, thanks to some untimely thunderstorms in Chicago, but all is well now and I’m looking forward to getting back to my academic work, my writing and this blog.
I have tons of photos, a few short videos, and a lot of great stories from the festival. Each year I’ve gone to Wacken I’ve kept a diary of the experience and written it up as sort of a review, sort of a first-person account–I did this for the various metal press outfits for which I wrote for many years, including Painkiller Magazine and SkullsNBones.com. This year I’m going to run my 2014 Wacken diary in installments on this blog, with photos, so you can get a sense of the full experience.
Therefore, many of the blog articles this week will be chapters of the Wacken diary. Lots of metal, beer and adventure coming up this week!
It’s good to be back.
