This is Rhapsody of Fire, singing their power ballad “The Magic of the Wizard’s Dream.” In German. With Christopher Lee. Singing in German. Just think about that for a moment. Christopher Lee singing in German. The word “epic” utterly fails to communicate how awesome this is.

Since the death of Orson Welles in 1985, the current holder of the most epic voice in the world is unquestionably Christopher Lee. The British actor with a 60-year movie and voice-over career has been, on the silver screen, Dracula, Rasputin, a James Bond villain, Count Dooku and Saruman from Lord of the Rings. You may also not know that he’s a huge heavy metal fan, and Rhapsody of Fire is his favorite band. In 2005 the Italian power metal act asked him to make a cameo on their new single, re-recording “The Magic of the Wizard’s Dream” (which originally appeared on Symphony of Enchanted Lands, Part II, for which Lee did spoken voice-overs). Lee was very happy to accept. This video was the result. He also recorded versions in English, Italian and French.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a pure ballad, but with Christopher Lee singing in German you just can’t miss. Enjoy this at the start of your weekend, and Shabbat Shalom! \m/
