My new horror novel, “The Rats of Midnight,” has been accepted for publication!

I am very pleased to announce that my editor at Samhain Publishing, Don D’Auria, has informed me that he wants to publish my latest horror novel, The Rats of Midnight. It is a wonderful treat to be able to do these “I’m published!” posts, and gratifying to know that my work continues to find an audience. It’s especially nice to be able to make this announcement just days before my next book, Doppelgänger, hits the store shelves and Amazon shopping carts. January has turned out to be a very lucky month for me! (Note: the illustration above is not the cover, just a place holder that I threw together).

The Rats of Midnight will be my fourth novel for Samhain Horror. Tentatively it’s scheduled for a December 2015 release, which will mean I’ll have two books out in the same calendar year for the first time since 2009. The book is a little different than my previous ones, as it’s not historical–at least not as historical. Here’s a brief synopsis:

Raven Bochner’s job may kill her! Fresh out of law school, Raven joins one of Portland, Oregon’s hottest technology law firms at the height of the dot-com boom. But when she stumbles upon a murderous cult that serves up human victims to hungry rats in a sacrificial chamber beneath Portland’s Old Town, she begins to suspect her own bosses and co-workers are under the cloaks and hoods of the bloodthirsty rat-worshipers. Whatever else they’re up to, their bloody talons run deep—from a New York boiler room pushing fraudulent stocks, to geek-studded cubicles of Internet start-ups that seem suspiciously like dot-bombs primed to explode. As Portland’s homeless become rat food one by one, Raven enlists in a desperate scheme to stop the cult once and for all—if she can before she becomes the next sacrifice, and before the fragile dot-com bubble bursts!

The Rats of Midnight was inspired by my own experiences practicing law during the dot-com boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s. As a result, it’s a very personal work for me–but hopefully will be no less horrifying than my previous outings for Samhain. Of course, watch this site for updates on the book! There will be the requisite cover reveal, promotional posts, sneak peeks etc., which has now become a well-known ritual. I hope all my readers are looking forward to the release as much as I will be in the next few months.

Thanks, as always, for the support!
