Metal for Friday: Riot “Liberty” [audio].

Today, June 26, 2015, is a great day for liberty. The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hedges has made us a little more equal and a little more free. This is how liberty works, and it’s why we celebrate it.

This song by the power metal band Riot, from their 1998 album Inishmore, is a perfect anthem symbolizing the march of freedom. And although Inishmore is a concept album about Celtic and Irish traditions, I felt it was appropriate to the day not just because liberty is what I’d like to celebrate today in general, but Ireland itself recently advanced the cause of liberty by voting via referendum on marriage equality–the first-ever time this issue has been decided by national plebiscite. Ireland is leading the world.

Have a wonderful weekend. Shabbat Shalom! \m/
