It’s true in every field of human cultural endeavor–literature, art, movies, all forms of music–that there are certain indelible, unmistakable classics that define a genre like nothing else. You have to keep going back to these classics no matter how old they get. I don’t know a metalhead alive who wouldn’t consider “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead to be one of these classics within the genre of heavy metal. And sometimes you just have to blast it out because you can!

This song originated way back in 1980 on Motörhead’s album, Ace of Spades, and since then the band has probably played it tens of thousands of times. This particular performance comes from Wacken Open Air 2006, and I was in the audience, one of several times I saw Lemmy and his crew there–most notably last year, when the band returned to finish the set that was cut short at Wacken 2013 because of Lemmy Kilmister’s sudden illness. I’ve rarely heard a more enthusiastic crowd reception to this set. Wacken 2015 is, of course, coming up next week! (Motörhead isn’t on the bill).

Have a fantastic weekend, and Shabbat Shalom! \m/
