Follow the Dragon Harald Fairhair from Western Norway to North America

This is awesome! A crew of Norwegians have built a replica Viking ship, called the Dragon Harald Farhair, and are sailing it across the Atlantic to recreate the Norse voyages of discovery of the Middle Ages. I didn’t know this was going on, but thanks to ThorNews for covering it. Best of luck to the crew of the Fairhair!

On April 26, the largest Viking ship since the Viking Age set sail and left the town of Haugesund in Western Norway. The Dragon Harald Fairhair (Norwegian: Draken Harald Hårfagre) will follow the route of great Viking explorers, sail across the North Atlantic Ocean to North America where the longship will visit ports in Canada and the United States.

According to the expedition homepage,

“the aim is to explore and relive one of the most mythological sea voyages – the first transatlantic crossing, and the Viking discovery of the New World (…)”

  1. I KNOW they got here first. I haven’t celebrated Columbus Day since school days, he was just some guy who got lost in a storm and was lucky enough to end up on a Caribbean Island.
