One aspect of history that doesn’t get nearly enough attention as it should is the music of the past. People in all eras were surrounded by music that permeated their daily lives just the same as it does for us in the 21st century, except they didn’t have instant electronic recordings at their fingertips the way we do today. Consequently, music of the past has to be reconstructed in different ways. In this post, historical novelist Adrienne Morris has delved back into the mid-19th century to unearth these genuine songs from that era. Give it a listen–it’s fascinating!

As many of you know MY NOVELS are set in Civil War and post-Civil War America. I thought it would be fun each week to focus on a different year of music from 1860-1900. Maybe my characters were listening to these songs back in the day. ENJOY.
